SSP Group Listening Programs

SSP Group Listening Programs are designed to give you the experience of the Safe and Sound Protocol along with several weeks of group co-regulation.

I will be teaching the foundations of Polyvagal Theory, Nervous System Regulation and how it relates to the SSP.

I will also be leading you through a variety of regulation tools each week to support you in developing better nervous system regulation, which you can carry into your daily life.

SSP Groups are a great opportunity to take advantage of a structured SSP experience at a lower cost.

What is the Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP)?

The SSP is an acoustic listening intervention that is designed to help regulate the nervous system via the middle ear muscles.

It was designed and developed by Dr. Stephen Porges, who is responsible for the Polyvagal Theory, which has revolutionized how we view our nervous systems and has provided a new lens to understand how we heal.

What is the goal of the SSP?

To connect you to more social engagement and safety in connection. It teaches your nervous system how to search for and recognize cues of safety.

When we have more access to the social engagement state in our nervous system, our bodies function in more harmony. We can also begin to release held energy in the body from years of being stuck in survival states.

We do this in a titrated way, listening in small doses and allowing reorganization and processing to integrate in between sessions.

Listening together in a group setting allows for connection through the process, and a safe space for our unique experiences to be held and validated.

The benefits of the SSP Program can continue to unfold even weeks and months after completion.

Who is the SSP for?

  • People coping with:

    • Anxiety or depression.

    • Chronic health conditions related to stress and nervous system dysregulation (CFS, Fibromyalgia, POTS, Dysautonomia, Long Covid, Chronic Pain, MCAS, Hypersensitivities).

    • ADD/ADHD and/or those on the Autism spectrum.

    • The effects of trauma.

    • Attachment wounding.

  • People looking to expand nervous system capacity and stress tolerance.

Who should NOT do the SSP in a Group Delivery?

  • People with active Seizure Disorders.

  • Those who are in active states of Self Harm or Suicidal Ideation.

  • People struggling with Bipolar, Borderline Personality Disorder or Dissociative Disorders. (The SSP may still be suitable via private delivery for these people rather than group delivery.)

  • Those people with a perforated or ruptured eardrum, stapedectomy, tympanostomy tubes.

  • Those people who are experiencing psychosis or are on antipsychotic medications or have had a recent psychiatric hospitalization.

  • Those people experiencing ACUTE Tinnitus that is deeply bothersome. The SSP can aggravate Tinnitus and in some cases it can also resolve Tinnitus. If Tinnitus is not bothersome, it is advised to listen keeping it to the lowest comfortable level, monitoring and adjusting throughout delivery.

What will the group listening process look like?

There are two different listening groups based on sensitivity.

THE STANDARD PATHWAY:

This is suitable for most people who are able to function throughout their day, can tolerate some activation and are capable of regulating and/or tolerating most physical and emotional symptoms.

12 Meetings Total over 6 Weeks

  • 1 Kick Off Group Session:  To explain the process and teach a little “Nervous System 101”. This will help you to be prepared to work with anything that arises in the process.

  • 10 Listening Sessions:  These will take place 2x/week over 6 weeks.  There will be 30 minutes of listening and 30 minutes of holding space, regulation time.

  • 1 Final Group Integration Session: This will be a final meeting where we can share our experiences, ask questions, and support each other in integrating the SSP.

  • 1 Year Subscription to the SSP Unyte App with access to the Connect pathway and the Balance pathway, which can be used upon completion of the SSP as a tune up.

  • Detailed handouts on the nervous system and a comprehensive list of regulation tools.

THE HIGHLY SENSITIVE PATHWAY:

This is suitable for those people struggling to function throughout the day who may have a high load of physical and/or emotional symptoms that they find challenging to regulate and tolerate.  This group will move through the SSP more slowly and with greater titration. There will be an option to listen for 5, 10 or 15 minutes per session based on capacity.

22 Meetings Total over 11 Weeks

  • 1 Kick Off Group Session:  To explain the process and teach a little “Nervous System 101”. This will help you to be prepared to work with anything that arises in the process.

  • 20 Listening Sessions:  These will take place 2x/week over 11 weeks.  There will be 15 minutes of listening and 45 minutes of holding space, regulation time.

What if I can't make it to all the listening sessions?

You can listen to any missed sessions on your own, with or without a co-regulating presence, depending on your internal capacity.

What equipment is needed to participate in the program?

  1. A cell phone or tablet capable of downloading the app.

  2. A second device (Tablet, Phone or Computer) that you can utilize for the Zoom calls.

  3. A set of OVER THE EAR headphones (without noise cancelling function or bass boost) that is connectable to the device that the app is on. For Apple products, you may need a specific adapter to connect. Airpods, Earbuds or the like are not supported with this program as they don’t stimulate the middle ear muscles in the necessary way.

  4. A creative project, such as an adult coloring book or sketchpad and pens, for you to work on while we listen to the music.

What is the cost of each group program?

THE STANDARD PATHWAY:   $ 505.00

The program is payable upfront or over 3 payments of $ 175/month.

THE HIGHLY SENSITIVE PATHWAY:   $ 605.00

The program is payable upfront or over 3 payments of $ 210/month.
